I am a software engineer at Mozilla and ex-Physics faculty member with 20+ years of programming experience in a variety of languages and platforms. Highlights of my academic career include publishing nearly 20 peer-reviewed papers on topics ranging from computational statistics to computer science, supervising a team of post-doctoral researchers, and securing a faculty position immediately after graduate school.
I left academia to build awesome software.

Experience
I have founded and developed Feedlooks.com, a modern RSS and Twitter aggregator that served tens of millions of articles to thousands of users. In the process, I have learned and adopted battle-tested startup methodologies from others. I am experienced in rapid application development and cloud deployment, having set up full web stacks at Amazon AWS, Linode, Rackspace, and Heroku.
From academia, I bring 10+ years of quantitative experience, including statistical and machine learning methods.

pdf.js
PDF.js is an open source, fully-fledged PDF rendering engine written entirely using web standards. It was one of the first projects to demonstrate that low-level HTML5 APIs (Canvas) combined with recent developments in JavaScript engines (Typed Arrays) can form a development platform with capabilities and efficiency comparable to native code. PDF.js is under active development by Mozilla Labs and contributors, and is being considered as a default component of Mozilla's Firefox browser.Technologies: Javascript, HTML5

Feedlooks.com
Feedlooks was an RSS and Twitter aggregator, which served tens of millions of articles to thousands of users. I've built the entire technology stack of the service, from the backend infrastructure to the frontend design. The business logic was implemented entirely on the browser, in Javascript. A server-side API in PHP interfaced with a fine-tuned MySQL-Memcached setup (half a million inserts per hour). Other features included: Twitter API integration, Facebook login integration, AddThis sharing, and a home-grown URL shortener.Technologies: Javascript + jQuery, PHP, MySQL, Memcached

Agility.js
Agility is an MVC library for Javascript that lets developers write maintainable and reusable browser code without the verbose or infrastructural overhead found in related libraries. The goal is to enable programmers to write web apps at least as quickly as with jQuery, while simplifying long-term maintainability through MVC objects.Technologies: Javascript

SimpleDB WebView
SimpleDB WebView offers an elegant user interface for browsing Amazon SimpleDB databases. (A live demo is available, but note it might take up to several secs for the app to boot up). It is an open source project built on top of Backbone.js and jQuery UI plugins, backed by a Node.js API.
